nknwn - 001

There seems to be some kind of unwritten code in the realm of bass music. The general rule is to, when producing, shroud yourself in as much mystery as humanly possible. Now this is by no means a negative, you would not believe how much I’m into mystery. I’m like, so into it. But that goes without saying, as an arguable (and at times miserable) music journalist it makes it so hard for me to come off like I know what I’m talking about (secret: mostly I don’t know what I’m talking about). Anyway, moving on, nknwn an act that exudes said ‘mysteriousness’ sent his (or her) first song ever produced by our dropbox last night, and even though nknwn (pronounced ‘unknown’?) is cloaked in ambiguity and an enigmatic façade, boy (or girl) can make some jams. nknwn’s “001” starts a tad slow but quickly opens into a tribal inspired house brouhaha that would do any club or dance floor justice. In the face of the giant production values the big name music acts have.. It would seem that mystique, talent and experimentation are the only iconic weapons underground bedroom producers have to their advantage.
