Seun Kuti - You Can Run (Falty DL Remix)

It’s been a somewhat quiet year for New York’s Falty DL but with his new, bashfully considerate remix of Nigerian badman Seun Kuti’s “You Can Run,” I feel safe in saying that Drew Lustmans silence has been shattered. If nothing else Lustmans unbelievably comprehensive rework takes UK Funky’s Nigerian/Malian inspired influences to a whole new level. By incorporating a sense of brash bongo tribalism and an even the occasional jazz bent horn, Falty DL manages to curate an environment of carefree musicality, even under Seun Kuti’s heavy-handed lyrics. Granted, this seemingly new form of “bass” music will take some getting used to but with a little time, I’d like to see what Lustman can do with even more Nigerian inspired melodies. But at least for now, I guess we’ll have to settle for this. Bummer*. Hear more Falty DL on Soundcloud.
